Chamomile: Nature’s Timeless Remedy for Digestive Health

Chamomile, a daisy-like plant from the Asteraceae family, has a rich history of use as a carminative and herbal remedy. Its medicinal properties have been recognized since ancient times, with roots in Egyptian, Greek, and Roman traditions. The Egyptians revered chamomile as a sacred gift from the sun god Ra and used it extensively to treat fevers and digestive issues. The Greeks and Romans followed suit, incorporating chamomile into their medicinal practices primarily for its soothing effects on the digestive system; something which modern day herbalists make use of in every day digestive prescriptions.

Chamomile tea, one of the most prevalent forms of its use, became a household remedy for promoting relaxation and reducing gastrointestinal discomfort. Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine also recognized chamomile’s benefits, using it to treat inflammation, skin conditions, and stress-related disorders. Today, chamomile continues to be valued in modern herbal medicine for its calming effects and gentle efficacy in treating digestive disturbances and promoting overall well-being. Lovely on its own as a herbal infusion but also tastes fabulous in the ‘Digestive Zen’ herbal tea blend.
